Sehr geehrter Monsieur Marchal,
merci beaucoup pour votre mail! I am very sorry that my french is
not very well. I just had five years french in school but I really
forgot so much while not speaking. So I hope it is ok to write in
english.
Thank you very much for your letter which makes me feel that you
think in the same way as I do. Its very interesting that the man on the
pic you sent and your oncle felt on the same day like my
great-grandfather.
For sure we should not forget them and that those war was ended by
de Gaulle and Adenauer and for sure by the inhabitants of both countries
that had learned by the mistakes that were made in the past.
For me it was very thrilling to walk over the former battlefields
on tracks of one of my familiy members. I was sunken into the past and
tried to understand why and how things happened. But it was very
beautiful to meet and to talk to present people of your country, too.
Its a beautiful landscape, I really enjoyed being in the fields of
Champagne or in the forests of Argonne. I always had very friendly and
helpful contacts in inhabitants I met. It was not just a holiday trip
for me, it was a impressive journay.
On "La Main de Massiges" one man said "Its nice to see you here -
its part of your history, too". He is right, we have so much
similarities that it is worth to care about our friendship and to act in
friendship.
